About Me

I began my career as a multimedia journalist interested in telling the stories of people impacted by key policies. So far that's taken me to church basements, beach side neighborhoods in Puerto Rico, heated City Council meetings, Congress and beyond. My work has appeared in outlets such as U.S. News and World Report, New York Daily News, and Tacoma News Tribune, among others.

In August of 2016, I graduated from Northwestern's Medill School with a Master's in journalism. Before that, I worked mostly in public radio media (shout out to KFAI in Cedar-Riverside, who gave me one of my first newsroom gigs!). After Medill, I set my sites on hyper local community journalism. In my roles as a local reporter, I felt simultaneously more connected to my neighbors and also a growing desire to effect and advocate for change, something I didn't think I could do in the ways I wanted in my role as journalist.

So, I went back to school and back to my hometown of the Twin Cities. I enrolled in the Master's of Public Policy program at the Humphrey, graduating in 2019 with concentrations in policy analysis, municipal governance, and environmental policy. Though I'm glad I moved into public policy, I am grateful for my time as a reporter, what it afforded me and what I learned along the way. I now work to better people's relationship with their government, help them understand policies and systems that affect them, and also work to make them feel empowered and integral to the process of good governance. My ultimate goal is to make the communities in which I work and live more resilient and self-reliant in the face of changing circumstances (warming climate, transitional economy, etc.).

I enjoy biking around the city in my beat up Raleigh 10 speed, hiking and exploring Minnesota's state park system, skiing or doing just about whatever else I can to be outside. I am the mother of two beautiful cats, and we reside in Longfellow, Minneapolis.
